Understanding Everyday Life in Australia

I offer one-on-one online conversations for adults  who want to make sense of everyday life in Australia.

My work is grounded in lived experience, language awareness and cultural context. Together, we take time to talk through everyday situations, questions and observations that can feel confusing, overwhelming or simply hard to put into words when living in another country.

Many people I work with are navigating:

  • everyday communication and unspoken expectations

  • cultural differences that don’t show up in guidebooks

  • family life, work and a sense of belonging

  • the emotional side of building a life far from home

The sessions are conversational and reflective. They are not about quick answers or instructions, but about understanding, orientation and feeling less alone with your questions.

A gentle clarification

I am not a migration agent and do not provide legal, financial or medical advice.

The sessions are educational and conversational and are based on lived experience and everyday context.

What I offer

I offer one-on-one online sessions focused on understanding everyday life in Australia.

The sessions create space to slow down and talk through situations that often feel surprisingly difficult — not because they are dramatic, but because they sit between language, culture and everyday reality.

Together, we may explore:

  • everyday communication and tone

  • common terminology used in housing, schooling or work

  • cultural differences in expectations and behaviour

  • questions that arise when settling into daily routines

  • experiences that are hard to explain to people “back home”

You are welcome to bring:

  • specific questions

  • everyday scenarios

  • emails or documents you would like to understand better

  • thoughts or concerns you haven’t quite found words for yet

Each session is shaped by what feels most relevant to you at that moment.

What these sessions are – and what they are not

These conversations are not intended to replace professional advice.

I do not provide migration, legal, financial or medical advice, and I do not offer assessments, recommendations or instructions. All discussions are non-binding and focus on language, everyday context and lived experience.

A quiet note on long-term realities

Living in Australia over time can raise questions that are rarely discussed openly, especially for people who build relationships, start families and gradually realise how deeply their lives become rooted here.

For some, this brings reflections about identity, belonging and the long-term shape of life — particularly once children are involved. These are not topics with simple answers, and they are often held quietly.

In my sessions, this is not approached as advice or guidance, but as a space to reflect, to name experiences, and to find language for thoughts and feelings that can otherwise remain unspoken.

Focused Everyday Life Sessions

Focused Topic Sessions are for times when you would like to talk through one clearly defined everyday topic in more depth.

They offer space for conversation, clarification and reflection, always from a language- and everyday-life perspective.

Topics that often come up include:

  • schooling and family life

  • housing and renting

  • suburbs in Sydney and everyday lifestyle differences

  • working life and workplace culture

  • cost of living and daily expenses

  • healthcare and everyday administration

  • driver’s licence, transport and mobility

  • social life, friendships and belonging

  • food culture and daily habits

  • animals, insects and everyday realities in Australia

These sessions are based on general experience and observation, not on professional or expert advice.

About Me

I have been living in Australia since 2008 and am based in Sydney.

From 2008 to 2017, I lived in regional Australia, which shaped my understanding of everyday life beyond the major cities. Since 2017, Sydney has been my home.

Over the years, I have worked across education, culture and tourism, gaining broad insight into Australian working life, everyday communication and workplace culture in different settings.

I am also a mother of two children who attend school in Sydney, which means I am very familiar with everyday family life, school communication and the practical questions many families face when settling in Australia.

I am the co-author of the German-language travel guide CityTrip Sydney (published in 2025).

I hold:

  • a Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy and Political Science (Ruhr-University Bochum)

  • a Master’s degree in Adult Education (University of Duisburg-Essen)

I continue to travel regularly to Germany and Austria, which helps me stay closely connected to everyday life, language use and cultural nuances there.

My work today brings together lived experience, language awareness and cultural understanding. I aim to offer grounded, thoughtful and humane orientation for people navigating life between Germany and Australia.
